Getting Started
Sometimes the toughest part about counseling is reaching out to get started. If you’ve seen therapists before you know that everyone has a different process, not all therapists can take your insurance & you don’t know exactly who does, and sometimes the inquiry process isn’t clear. If you’re new to counseling you may not know what to expect in general. “What questions should I ask?” “How much information should I give upfront?” “Should I call or email?”
That’s where I come in! I’m Jayda and I’m the administrative assistant for Morgan Counseling Services. I help with the scheduling and intake process. While you won’t see me at a front desk at the office, rest assured that when we speak you’re speaking to a real person, not AI. I am a virtual assistant, but that just means I work from home!
My goal is to make our process as simple as possible. And I’m always happy to answer any and all of the questions! In this article, I’m going to give you a snapshot of what it looks like to inquire and schedule an initial session with one of our counselors. To do that, let’s turn this into an email!
YOU: Hello. I’m interested in meeting with one of your counselors.
ME: Hi! Thank you for reaching out to us. We’d be glad to work with you! If you wouldn’t mind letting me know your insurance provider, the gist of why you’re seeking support, and any scheduling limitations, I’d be glad to pair you with the best available counselor.
YOU: I have ___ insurance, I’d like to talk about ___, and I’m availble on ___.
ME: Thank you! I think our counselor ___ could be a good fit. To get started with an initial session, could ___ work well?
YOU: Yes
ME: Wonderful! Shortly, you’ll receive an email with the session reminder and a link to complete initial paperwork. Please let me know if you have any questions or run into any issues.
And just like that, you’re all set! Of course, some details may change slightly. Maybe you already know who you’d like to meet with and you’re checking their availability. Maybe you have an insurance question and you’d like to start there. Or maybe we will have this conversation over the phone. However you reach out, I’ll be there to answer any questions, pair you with the best counselor for your needs, and support you along the way.
Let’s talk about the initial paperwork. I promise it’s not a list of homework or endless intorspective questions. Most of the forms are purly informational and just require a signature. Things like how long sessions run or how payment processing works. Just those administrative details, terms, and conditions. The other couple of forms are questionnaires, but just some questions to get to know you a little bit and why you’re seeking counseling. This helps our counselors prepare for your initial session to help you get the most out of the meeting as possible. The purpose of the initial session is to set the foundation of what you’re looking for and how our counselor can best support you. Our intake questionnaires support that process!
All this to say: there is no wrong way to reach out and get started. Sending a short email or calling our number is step one, and from there, I get to help you with all other steps! We’re here to make the process simple, ease your mind on any questions, and ultimately lead you to getting the support you’re looking for. If you have any other questions from here, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’ll be looking forward to your email or call!
